[Neighbors] Weekly crime report from our area

I think having a police car in the hood is a good thing and better than not having one. I think the problem is Liza sending out a message trying to shame ( unfair to piggy back) others into joining. People have reasons for not joining and they should be respected, not questioned.

Our neighborhood patrol is modeled after the one established in my prior neighborhood, Preston Hollow North. We had enough voluntary owner participation to pay for off-duty patrol officers 24/7. Our neighborhood had significantly lower crime rates than the neighborhoods to the north, south, east and west of us, none of which had 24 hour patrols.

During a call to 911 last weekend, the wait time for an on-duty police officer was going to be extensive. A neighbor called ENP who happened to be on duty and they were here in minutes. I've had a couple of situations where I needed assistance and our patrol officer was at my door quickly.

It DOES make a difference and I'm grateful to all who are able to contribute.

All of us pay for the Dallas Police Department through our property and sales taxes which go to the City of Dallas. Some may believe that the cost of off duty police to sit in the neighborhood doing paperwork in a police car is a deterrent to crime, and worth paying additional money. In all of the years that my family has lived in LJE, I have seen no fact based evidence that any crime was prevented because of the presence of off duty police sitting in parked police cars in LJE.

Just saw this on Neighbors: https://neighbors.ring.com/c/jq9X3Lf8YbnpPt1be32bfa6L

Just got this from Ring. 1/2 of the reports are within about a mile of our homes.

Neighbors, PLEASE join or renew your membership in our ENP. The number of hours of patrol we receive is directly related to how much revenue is generated by memberships. At the current low membership rate, we will have to reduce the number of patrol hours. Scary in light of the very slow response time of Dallas Police, and the rising crime rate in our area.

The rate is incredibly reasonable for the personal protection we receive. LESS THAN $1/DAY!

Let’s band together as the great, helpful neighborhood we are and help one another by getting as many memberships/patrol hours as we can.

I find it unfair that those who don’t join are “piggybacking” off the protection procured by those who do join.

And don’t forget the incredibly generous subsidization offer of Jen and John Sanders.

Best regards to all, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Liza
