EGW is one of the local contractors they hire to activate a device that allows Atmos to remotely read the gas meter.  On Wed, Jul 6, 2022 at 1:18 PM Wayne Bower via Neighbors <neighbors at lj-estates.com> wrote:I told her if she had hot water the meter is working.  . On Jul 6, 2022, at 1:12 PM, liza urso via Neighbors <neighbors at lj-estates.com> wrote:I thought the exact same thing (have heard horror stories)  this am when he came to my house.  I told him he could go around back to look, but immediately locked all the doors in my house.I opened the gate for him and realized that my sprinkler was on.  I figured if he'd get soaked in his process, it seemed more legit.  He went straight to the gas meter and was fooling around with some hand-held gadget.  I yelled out the back door if everything was OK and he said the gas meter had been installed so close to the fence that his gadget couldn't get a reading.  That the meter may have to be moved...That didn't make a lot of sense, since Atmos replaced the meter a few years ago.  Anyway, I told him I wasn't going to spend a minute of time on the project, nor a cent of money, but to do whatever he needed to do.  BTW, he didn't pull his truck into my driveway, but left it in the alley.  That made me more comfortable.  Also, he said there are 4-5 houses on our street that he was assigned to see if the wireless reading system was activated and working.Curious to see what will happen next....Liza P. Sounds like a scam. Your gas is through
Atmos and there isn't any reason that your gas meter has not been
activated unless you had someone working on the gas line at your house.

The scam is that they get you to come out and look at the meter in the
back, then someone comes in a robs the house while you are in the back
yard distracted by a fake utilities guy.

We just received a knock/ring at the door this morning,
and I spoke with the guy through our security camera. He said he was
with EGW Utilities to check to see if our gas meter was activated, as
some of them in the area have not been activated yet..., and his company
works on them and activates them... sounded very strange and fishy. We
did not open the door, and I asked if he could come back another day, as
we were very busy today. I wanted to check the background on this. Did
anyone else talk to him or receive a similar visit?Amanda
