[Neighbors] coyotes

All,

In the email below, Mrs. Lopez said she and her husband are leaving the “group” because of “racist and sexists” attacks. Mrs. Lopez addressed the email to Jennifer (as the email administrator), the group email, and me specifically. It’s obvious from the context of her email that she is referring to me as the racist and sexist. Her words are false, hurtful, and defamatory. I don’t know Mrs. Lopez, and I don’t believe we’ve ever met. Her character assignation stems from an email exchange that she took “offline” with respect to the original coyote email thread. She neither shared that email exchange when she “reported” me to Jennifer nor when she emailed the group with her false words. So, I’ve attached it to this email for your review. I don’t think any reasonable person can review this email exchange and conclude that I am a racist and sexist. I waited and thought about this for several days, hoping that it would fade away. But, it hasn’t. I will not be labeled with such pejorative words and leave them unanswered.

I hope with this email, you now know, as Steve Harvey would say, “the rest of the story.” I also hope that this is truly the end of the “story.”

Good afternoon!

We have lived in the neighborhood two years and have tried to keep our children, dog and neighbors safe when at all possible. That was the intent of my email response, that we as fellow human beings would contribute to the problem with coyotes which have been behind my home of late. My son runs early in the mornings before his schooling.

I am sad to leave the group but please remove me and my husband Roy Lopez from the email group. We are active with our Meadowdale neighbors but will not tolerate racist and sexists attacks from people in this group.

Kind regards,
Bridget Lopez

Given the apparent sensitivity around this topic, please discontinue the coyote discussion.

Thank you, Jen

Bridget,

I’m sure they had their reasons. People have different perspectives on wild animals. They had good intentions. Leave at that. Judgments aren’t necessary.

Thank you for the update. This is very irresponsible considering the animals, people and children in the area.

I just posted this on Nextdoor, but I wanted to be sure and send it out to LJE as well...

I saw someone putting a sign out by the Northaven Trail, and then I noticed that she works for Dallas Animal Services. The sign was a warning about coyotes in the area (this was near the Disney streets). I spoke to her and found out a lot of great information that she asked that I send out on Nextdoor. There are about 6 coyotes in the area. She goes out in the early hours of the morning with a tiny dog (as fake "bait") on a leash and uses something like night-vision goggles in order to try to spot them. The behavior she has seen in the area shows that these coyotes are not yet aggressive. (Over by Peter Pan park, there was one that was a bit aggressive, but he/she is now back to normal).

In speaking with her, I learned that a neighbor in the area was actually inviting one of the baby coyotes to play with his dog!?? The coyote was jumping around and being so fun and playful, so it is now acting like a dog (when she spots it at night) and coming back to find that other dog to play with. Another problem is that there are a few homeowners that are actually leaving food out on their front porch for them???? She said the coyotes are NOT going to starve to death-- they know how to get food, such as cotton tails, rats/mall rodents, and even cats (she said they are trying to pass an ordinance that requires homeowners to keep their cats inside at night). She also said she finds food on the Trail that people are intentionally dropping off for the coyotes. All the above activity is why the coyotes are sticking around this area. She asked that we please STOP doing any of the above.
