[Neighbors] ONCOR cutting our trees in next 2 weeks

Before anyone attempts to trim their own trees near power lines (including private arborists), please be sure to check the regulations/ordinances. I don’t know the specifics but there are written legal rules regarding how close to a power line any activities may be performed. The ONCOR representative should be able to direct you to the restrictions.

Best regards,

Scott H. Matheson

Many of these flyers were attached to our doors last week and this week. The gentleman distributing them said the work will be done in the next 2 weeks.

The guidance to the tree trimmers is to cut all limbs within 10 ‘ of any power wire (the highest wire coming off the pole).

My biggest concern is that this is the time of year (mid-Feb. thru mid-July) when all oak trees (live, red, burr, etc) should NOT be trimmed due to the virulent spread of Oak Wilt Disease, which will kill the tree if it gets into an open cut. Noted arborists are adamant about not trimming oaks during this period.

I just left a message at Oncor’s number (1-800-518-2375) to have Kenneth Elliott, the Contact Person listed on the flyer, call me to discuss. It appears that he is unaware of this danger.

I hope others of you who have oak trees will also give him a call and ask if they could please wait until after July 15 to trim.

The secondary issue is that our trees will end up looking like those in the flyer. Some neighbors are contacting their own arborists to trim, so as not to end up with the butchering inflicted by the Oncor trimmers. The gentleman who left the flyer said that, regardless of how a private arborist cuts our trees, ONCOR will trim per their 10’ guideline.

I certainly don’t want a neighborhood power outage in boiling hot or freezing cold weather, but much of the charm of LJE is our gorgeous, huge, plentiful trees.

Thanks for taking a moment of your time to reach out to ONCOR.

Best to all. Liza
