[Neighbors] Oak Wilt disease

One of our neighbors just made a very good point.  With all of the tree damage in LJE today, it would be great if those of you with damaged oaks (of all species) could have the bare areas painted with black pruning paint, so the Oak Wilt spores won't get into the open bark.
Many thanks.  Trying to keep these beautiful trees safe, from one thing and another! Best to all.  Liza

 Hi Liza,
With all the broken tree limbs in the neighborhood, will you remind the neighbors about the pruning paint so the spores for Oak Wilt won't get into the trees? I have two trees with torn limbs, one massive and I definitely plan to use the black pruning paint.
Thank you in advance, India Rubin

Hi, LJE neighbors.
I’ve seen some oak trees (live, red, etc) in LJE being trimmed recently, so I thought I would re-send my email of last month.
I have been told by my certified arborist   that if you MUST trim an oak between Feb. and  July (fallen limb, e. g.), the cut area should be painted with that black tree paint, so the spores of the disease can’t get into the fresh wood.
Please read the article which is in the link in my April email.
The oaks in entire neighborhoods can be wiped out with an Oak Wilt event, as is happening in Lake Highlands, as shown in the article.
Not only are our LJE oak trees stately to behold, but they add monetary value to our properties.
Best to all. Happy weekend.

This is a troubling article about many beautiful oaks in Lake Highlands.

I thought it was widespread knowledge that oaks should not be pruned between Valentines Day and 4th of July.  However, I still see numerous tree trimmers in LJE (and beyond) trimming oaks during that dangerous time. Either they are unaware, or just want the $.

How terrible it would be for LJE to lose our magnificent oaks… I, like the person in the attached article, moved here primarily for the gorgeous trees and the ambiance they provide.
