My fellow neighbors:
Stealing political signs is theft! I am writing to express my profound
disappointment and outrage regarding this afternoon’s theft of political
signs in our beautiful neighborhood. This act, of ONE SOLE INDIVIDUAL, is
not only a blatant disregard for the law but also an affront to the
democratic principles we should all hold dear.
Stealing political signs is a crime in all 50 states
<https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/is-it-illegal-to-steal-or-vandalize-political-signs/>
. It is a misdemeanor that can result in fines and even jail time

Beyond
the legal ramifications, this behavior undermines the very foundation of
our democracy. Political signs are a form of free speech, protected under
the First Amendment

By
stealing these signs, these criminals are not just committing theft; they
are attempting to silence the voices of fellow citizens. It was obvious
the political persuasion of the individual, because one particular sign of
a right-leaning presidential candidate was left untouched throughout the
neighborhood. And for the record, my right leaning neighbors have the same
right as me, a left of center person, to express their opinion on their
property.
This kind of behavior is unacceptable and must be condemned in the
strongest terms by ALL. It is a cowardly act that reflects poorly on our
neighborhood and our commitment to democratic values. If the perp is on
here (and I have reason to believe he is), and we have you on camera, I
urge you to consider the consequences of your actions and to respect the
rights of others to express their political beliefs freely and without fear
of retribution. AND RETURN EVERYONE’S DAMN SIGN TODAY, and I won’t
prosecute! If not, I will post your truck, face, and file with Dallas PD.
I hope this serves as a wake-up call to those who think they can act with
impunity. Our neighbors deserves better, and we must all work together to
ensure that such acts of vandalism and theft are not tolerated.
Roy Lopez
You neighbor!
