Subject: [Neighbors] Brookport- add’l info and signing out…

Hi, neighbors.

Hopefully someone else will be able to take up this issue. I am in the middle of several huge projects and don’t have the bandwidth.

I think the appropriate wheels are moving.

Code Inspector Gonzales just met with our ENP/DPD officer Gregorich at the Brookport home. The door was answered by the “property manager” 😉, who said the “owner” was sick in bed upstairs with the flu. The “pm” said that they rent out rooms.

Gonzales and Gregorich looked all
Around the home and the yard and Gonzales took many photos. He also told the “pm” that there are a number of code violations, some of them being:
1. No business permit, which is req’d to rent rooms;
2. The area is not zoned for this use;
3. Trash
4. Fence falling down
And others the officer didn’t delineate to me.

The Inspector is going to file a report with the City Attorney, who hopefully will open an investigation.

The Inspector gave his card and said he would be happy to speak with anyone from the neighborhood as to a status report, after 1 week to get things rolling.

I hope they will condemn the house and tear it down, as they did with a dallas house I saw on the news not too long ago.

As far as the criminal issues of theft (firewood) and trespassing, Officer Gregorich said they would need to be taken up with DPD by the aggrieved parties, if desired.

He also told me that DPD has had numerous calls re fighting at night at the residence.

Thanks so much to everyone for the heads up re these folks being in LJE. I will be much more cognizant of locking my doors and closing my back gate. I do feel very sorry for their plight, but also know that they are desperate financially and not thinking clearly.

I did not send the letter to Gay Willis, because I imagine her course of action would have been to get the Code Inspection folks involved. Which our wonderful ENP officer did for us within minutes!

Best regards to everyone. Liza
