Hi Neighbors,

I’m sad to report that unfortunately it sounds like the saga at 10728 Brookport Place will be going on for a while longer.

I think I shared before that HUD was the main lienholder on the property when it was foreclosed on and put up for auction. HUD bought it at the auction and engaged a law firm (HWA) to handle the eviction process, which has since completed.

As for next steps, HUD’s process is to repair the interior of the home before putting up for sale on their website hudhomestore.gov <http://hudhomestore.gov/>. Once HUD contractors give estimates for the cost of repair, they will make a decision. Unfortunately, it looks like this will be a slow months long process. The HUD attorney warned the city attorney about the long process because HUD will have to hire and work through third parties which require bids and a lot of bureaucratic approval.

The City Attorney did informed HUD that there are buyers that are willing to purchase the property for the lot.

Now that HUD is the owner, the City will not be demolishing the property. There is case law that the City would have to reimburse HUD for the structure.

The city is going to continue to monitor HUD's progress and make sure that the house is secured and free of vagrants.

Sincerely,

Cathy Brightman
