[Neighbors] Squirrels chewing/stripping bark of maple (and other ) trees

I'm having similar issues but they are eating my furniture. Thank you for suggestions.  The spray has not worked yet.

 Liza and all neighbors.   We had an arborist out last week to look at our maples.. two are badly damaged.. squirrels.  He recommended Repel All.. ordered and spray daily.  It sticks to high heaven!  Also ordered some pods today to hang in the trees.. on Amazon.  The arborist was not very hopeful but said to give it a try.   I love the Maples!  Good luck to all of LJE….

There is a long post on NextDoor, stating that maples are particularly prone.

Suggested remedies:
-"Repels All" spray from Lowe's
-coffee grounds sprinkled around base of tree
-Vicks VapoRub spread around areas they chew/strip
-Peppermint oil or a mixture of habaners peppers or cayenne in oil.  Apply to trunk with a sponge mop head.

I'm about to hire vigilantes with weapons!!! Good luck to all of us!
